Exams can place a lot of stress on our bodies, especially the HSC.
Here’s 5 simple study break tips to help relieve tension, improve your state of mind and keep you feeling fresh.
-
Aromatherapy in your pocket
Essential oils have an amazing power to calm, clarify and energise. Try placing a couple of drops of essentials on a handkerchief to keep handy whilst studying, and pull out whenever you need a little aromatherapeutic boost.
- For focus – try Rosemary (3 drops), Lemon (2 drops) and Basil (1 drop)
- For calming – try Lavender (3 drops), German Chamomile (2 drops) and Neroli (3 drops) – You can also place this one next to your pillow to help sleep.
- For energy – try Eucalyptus (2 drops) , Peppermint (2 drops) and Lemon (2 drops)

Have a relaxing soak in the tub
A soak in the tub with 1-2 cups of epsom salts dissolved in the water is a great way to relieve muscular tension. Light a candle, turn on some chill-out tunes and relax. If you find having a bath too close to bedtime overstimulating, try having a bath break in the middle of the day.
-
Drink plenty of water
It’s really hard to concentrate when your nervous system, including your brain, is dehydrated. Keep a bottle of water handy whilst studying and drink frequently. Plenty of water in your system does increase your toilet breaks, but these also give you a chance to stretch and reset your muscles.
-
Multi-task; apply a masque
Stress can play havoc with our skin. Aside from maintaining a good daily skincare regime, take advantage of time spent at home by applying a masque when studying to give your skin an added hydrating/refining/brightening boost.

Book in for a massage
Aches and pains from maintaining the same (poor) posture for long periods of time can lead to poor concentration and sleep.
